award winning photography

Nominated for the Bruidsfoto Awards 2012

I am so honoured to be nominated for the 2012 Bruidsfoto Awards. This is a prestigious award for wedding photographers throughout The Netherlands and Belgium.  The image below was selected from 1700 submissions.

What makes me especially happy is that this is one of my all time favorite images. I love that was selected by the jury.

The image below has been nominated in the category “emotions”.

If you are so inclined, please vote for my image on the Bruidsfoto Award website.  In order to cast your vote,  select 3 images in each category. Each category has a winner, and the photo with the most votes is the overall winner.

Below is a list of images that didn’t get a nomination. They all have a special place in my heart, so I thought I’d share.

And finally.  To my clients, my gorgeous, amazing brides and grooms.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!!!

Enjoy the images,

Baby it’s cold outside

Some of you may remember Wendy and Kris from the gorgeous destination wedding in Italy back in May. They contacted me for a wintery shoot with their two little girls. It’s always a joy to photograph this family.

And so it was on a cold and early December morning that we met for an outdoors shoot.  This winter hadn’t given us any snow so far, so we chose a white palette to add a wintery feel to the shoot. Early morning may very well be my favorite time of the day.  I absolutely loved the warm and gorgeous light we got that morning. Within just 50 minutes we wrapped up an amazing series of beautiful images.

Much love,

This year and coming into my own.

This is a personal, long post. And no, I will have no regrets.

It has been a year of ups and downs.

Sound cliché? Think again.

The year before it had been so clear to me. I actually spelled it out. “I shall have NO REGRETS”.

Somehow 2011 remained undefined for a long, long time. What was it going to be about? Could it possibly be better than the epic ’10? No way! Or … way?

2011 was to become my most amazing, epic and insightful year – EVER!

I connected with some of my heroes within the business. Some facades crumbled before my very eyes. I moved on… I grew as a photographer and – hopefully – as a person. I made new friends. Friends who stood by me and supported me every single day. Thank you for being there when I needed you! Thank you for giving me sanity when I doubted myself. You are awesome! And you are going places! I will be here to cheer you on, every step of the way!

Our kids grew up so fast this year.  They surprise and amaze me every single day. I see so much of myself in them. I am privileged to be their mother. It’s exhausting, frustrating, amazing and glorious and I wouldn’t miss it for the world!!!  One day I hope to have raised 3 harmonic, happy grownups. Meantime we’re enjoying the path that leads us there. I love the three of you with all my heart!

Birthday came – and so did the puppy I had wished for.  I thrive with a canine around. I heart my happy Willow. I’ve never had or met a happier dog – ever!

I travelled and took new friends on a roadtrip. Little did I know they were sisters from a different mother. I love you. You are always with me and I owe you so much! I may live far away, but know that I am there if you ever need me.

Summer came. Whilst everyone was complaining about the weather, I kept hearing the blast in Oslo over and over again in my head.  Hug your kids and pray for a sane future.

And finally … to my soulmate.
We were friends. We became lovers. We exchanged vows. We became parents.
I will grow old with you. You are there to pick me up when I feel insecure.  You are sanity when I am crazy.  You … are my ROCK.
I love you.

So with this said.
I look ahead, with no regrets. With only hope and plans for the future.
Where it will all take me, I do not know.
But I will give it my all.
I love my life. I just need to remind myself from time to time.

I still wonder what 2011 was all about… Maybe it was more about the journey than the actual goal.

Enjoy these last days of the year.  And make YOUR 2012 amazing!

Much love,

PS: below are some shots from my favorite time this year… on a mountaintop in Norway – pre 7/22.  Enjoy the goofy selfies of the rock and me. xo

Merry Christmas and the Gift of Time

Today is the day.

Our three little ones have been so patiently waiting. The tree is surrounded by white and red wrapped presents.

They will soon know if they will get what they wished for. They’ve been so good, they have nothing to worry about.

It’s such a joy to watch the kids’ innocent anticipation.  There’s a sparkle in their eyes!

I’ve been pondering about what the ideal gift would be for myself. And after much consideration I came up with the best gift ever: time.

How is this a gift?

I live a fast-paced life as a mother of three with an own business. I passionately love what I do. However, someone decided their would only be 24 hours in a day. And that isn’t working out for me – at all.

Needless to explain that a day only streches so far. So how to get more time? The answer is simple : delegate!  So I have made a list of the things I do not love passionately. And those things will be delegated from now on.

In return I will have more… time.

May all your Christmas wishes come true!

Oh Christmas Tree

It’s December 23. Lille Juleaften for the norwegians. The day on which the tree is decorated and the lights are lit. Here in our family, we get a Christmas tree soon after Sinterklaas. Being braught up in a family with a norwegian mother, I must admit I’m much more into Christmas than Sinterklaas. So in December, we bring a little magic into our house.

Every year people ask me what colours I will be “doing” my Christmas tree in. The answer is simple: red.  I love a traditional tree with white lights and red ornaments.

I’m sharing a few details of our Christmas home.

Ka’s Christmas Shoot

My friend Kristina has a nack for finding the funniest, most amazing outfits and props on Etsy. Every year, we do a Christmas shoot… which cracks us up every single time! We think we’re pretty hilarious… we get the same jokes, laugh out loud when we’re not really supposed to and oh well… you had to be there.

In a way, this has become our little tradition. A fun start to the festive season!

Ka, it’s with much love that I post this! Merry Christmas to you, your man and Bailey (the immensely patient golden retriever).

The Christmas Shoot

This year I was going to do it differently. I was going to plan this waaaaay ahead of time and avoid stress.

But then time went warp speed on me…. again.

I’m sharing one of the shots from our little Christmas shoot yesterday.More to come – later.

Enjoy 2 of my babes.

A Loveshoot in Antwerp

On a beach on a remote island in Fiji, Sjoerd proposed to Diana. He took out the engagement ring he had brought with him from home, got on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

Ah the romance!

So it was on gorgeous fall Friday in November, that I welcomed Sjoerd and Diana for a lovely day of shooting, getting to know eachother and having lunch and coffees in the heart of Antwerp.

Diana and Sjoerd, you are such lovely people and you have an amazing energy together. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding at Finley next April!

Stolen moments

Four kids, nine years of marriage… Life is fast and time can sometimes seem to slip away. During a session in November, I caught Katrien and Jan in a special moment. And it was just about the two of them. And I was blessed to be there to capture it.

These two are an amazing reminder that no matter how many kids you have, and how hectic things get,  it’s important to be a couple.

More from the session with the kids later, but for now, I leave you with some beloved moments of this couple.

So here’s to them – and date nights.

Paris workshop Part 2

Second leg of the workshop with the über-talented Fer Juaristi. This Mexican photographer is awesome. Guys like him are changing the face of wedding photography every single day. His work is remarkable.

As I went through the images from last summer, I couldn’t help but post a few from that fun afternoon with the Mexican talent. It is with much fondness for the guy that I look back on that afternoon in Paris.

These gorgeous people were married only three weeks after the workshop! Enjoy the images.

I adore babies. And I love working with first time parents. Welcoming a baby into your life is rewarding and daunting at the same time. Forget all the things you thought you knew as soon as the little person arrives!

When two become three, life seems to shift into high gear and time goes by to fast. I love capturing the moments between a couple and their first baby, and give them the images to cherish for life.

At 10 months baby adorable baby Pauline was a dream. She was totally into it!

I’m sharing some of the images from her session with her lovely mom and dad.

Happy Birthday Lisa!

She was our little surpise. Today is exactly four years since she was born at home, straight into our home, our heart, our lives ! Our little bundle of joy!

Lisa is funny, passionate, LOUD, talented and intelligent!  I see so much of myself in her. I love her with all my heart! I could never imagine life without you our sweet Lisa Amalia! She blows me away every day.

Lisa loves her binky and blanky… And I love how she plays with her hair when she gets tired.

We love you Lisa. Happy 4th birthday, baby! Please keep surprising us.

And here’s our little song… I improvised my own lyrics when you were born: “Lisa, Lisa, Lisa – Du må ikke gråte… ”

Paris workshop Part 1

When I saw Fer Juaristi‘s tweet way back in March about his Paris workshop, I didn’t hesitate. Fer is a fantastic wedding photographer with a unique eye. This workshop turned out to be a joint effort with his fellow-wedrocker David Josué. A double treat!

The only thing I wasn’t too keen about was going to Paris by myself. So I was very delighted to have my good friend Damon join me!

Both Damon and I had a great time during the workshop. I can’t believe all the talented photographers who were there. We have since kept in touch and I am in awe of their talent – seriously!

Sarah and Olivier were married only 1 month before we photographed them in Paris. Be sure to check out their amazing wedding by Emily on Amypunky’s blog.

So without further ado… Here’s some shots from the first part of that day with newlyweds Sarah and Olivier.

Marius is 8

He was the ultimate Lano-unge. I can’t help but wonder where the past few years have gone. In front of me stands this eight-year old boy with a twinkle in his eye. He is kind, beautiful and has the best sense of humour I’ve seen in a kid. I’m so proud and happy to have this boy in my life.

He is a good boy – and a good man in the making. I love him to bits!!!

Marius, my awesome first kid turned 8 on Saturday.

It was not to go unnoticed ;-)

Here’s a bit of this and that….

LOVE inspired

It’s finally here! The very first edition of my little magazine LOVE inspired! I had been playing around with this idea ever since the beginning of this year. It just took a while to make it all come together.

And now, without further ado, I present the brand new LOVE inspired.

Mike Larson Tuscany Style Workshop

I met California-based international wedding photographer Mike Larson almost by accident in the spring of 2010 in Antwerp. Little did I know that Mike’s talk at Calumet would have such an influence on me as a photographer.  Later in the year I got an email from his office about small group consulting sessions througout Europe in November of 2010.  I wanted to know more and put together a group quickly. That session changed a zillion things for my business.

Then. came. Italy.

I was already booked for a destination wedding in Italy around the same time. So it made sense to head out there early and do the workshop. I posted about the workshop on Facebook.  Three fellow photographers, wanted to join me on my roadtrip to Tuscany. That trip in itself was epic!   Thank you Natalie, Patricia and Vinita for being my travelling companions. Vini thanks for keeping me awake for 20 hours just by interviewing me and asking me a zillion questions. I loved it!

Mike specializes in vineyard and estate weddings. This particular workshop is for photographers who want to specialize their business. Mike is hosting another one in Italy next week. Also he will be doing a workshop in The Netherlands in November. Be fast if you want to grab a spot, as day 1 is already sold out!

Below are a few of my shots taken during the 2-day workshop.

The gorgeous styling and stationery is by Vanessa from Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations. Her work blows me away.  I love her eye and style!

Waiting for Baby

The lovely Sofie and Ben are waiting for baby… Their little miracle is due in a few weeks time.

We met just before sunset in the Kalmthoutse Heide a few weeks ago for a shoot.  I loved this shoot so much! Both Ben and Sofie were a total delight to work with!  Their baby is blessed to have such loving parents.

The sad thing is that a bushfire hit this beautiul nature reserve while I was in Italy. De zwangerschapsfotografie met Sofie en Ben aan de Heide in Kalmthout.

Two Sisters

Our neighbours have two sweet granddaughters. And I got to shoot them last week. These girls were very shy to begin with, but they soon warmed up to my lens – and me.

Enjoy the images!

Loveshoot in the dunes

The weather was so beautiful that day.  Awesome luck… but it also meant a beached packed with people.

So I opted to shoot Claire and Koen in the dunes instead of the beach… Claire and Koen adopted twin boys in January. These two gorgeous babies joined mom and dad for their shoot!

Dear Claire and Koen, I can’t wait to shoot your wedding next month!

See you soon, T

A smile on my face

When Sandra booked me I was totally happy! Her son Yves is in my son’s class and is doing his first communion. For this occasion, they wanted some images of him and his little sister Manon.  Since I know these kids, they were very relaxed in front of the camera. No shying away here… The kids played and did their thing, while I got to capture the moments.  I ‘m so happy with all the awesome spots we have around here – these were taken a short drive from where we live.

A big thanks to Sandra for being amazing about meeting so late in the evening on a school night!  You guys are a true joy to photograph! Not only are you a stunning family, you were fun and great to be with!

Much love, T
